The Net Observer wants to investigate the osmotic/despotic process between life and technology, expression and simulation, interface and reality.

The Net Observer is an on-line database witnessing new art forms on the Net promoting challenges and encounters amongst creative personalities and communication platforms that are exploiting contamination as the creative key and aesthetic standard.

The Net Observer wants to contribute to the rising and the achievements of a new Web’s aesthetics that is crossing both forms and language rules. This is organically linked to the net technology, the natural contexts where the artist engages in representing that simulation also known as reality.

The Net Observer opens only windows on the Net reality, for this reason artworks and authors are presented through texts founded on the web sites of origin. The Net Observer doesn’t draw up any critical contribute, as a photographer staring at a landscape, The Net Observer focuses its lenses on a single element, a detail in the Net infinity and catches a frame of what ‘has been’ on the monitor in that precise moment: the screen is a window on the Net as a painting is a window on the world.

The Net Observer has choosen to represent only artworks that are focused on the Net, as well as, on new media, independently of the output media. By choosing artworks, The Net Observer outlines its editorial line and, in doing so, it contributes to the making of a semantic frame for the Net’s aesthetics. The observer, as Werner Heisenberg has already prooved, is never neutral, it belongs to the reality and, at same time, determines it.

The Net Observer, in a more esplicit way, stops wearing the witness clothes in order to turn itself in to an actor, when it realizes and promotes (by its own or working togheter with different entities) specific artistic and communication projects.

The Net Observer, furthermore, wants to challenge the Net artworks transience: the establishment of a foundation, in order to collect and preserve the arworks freely donated by their authors, is an idea that rises just from the need of keeping the memory of Net forms and places, longer than their own suvival into the contexts of origin.

The Net Observer’s archive can also be interpreted as a research tool, at any cultural institution disposal, as long as they are able to formulate innovative proposal in relation to how to file and how to divulgate such a complex cultural objects as the ones characterizing the contemporaneity.

The Net Observer is totally a non profit project, any kind of economic support will be used to reach the institutional project’s goals.

The Net Observer vuole investigare il processo osmotico/dispotico tra vita e tecnologia, espressione e simulazione, interfaccia e realtà.

The Net Observer è un database on line che dà testimonianza delle nuove forme d’arte sulla Rete e promuove incontri e scontri tra personalità artistiche, forme espressive e modalità comunicative che utilizzano la contaminazione come chiave creativa e canone estetico.

The Net Observer vuole contribuire all’affermazione di una nuova estetica del Web che attraversi le forme e i linguaggi della comunicazione e che sia intrinsecamente legata alla tecnologia ed alla Rete, contesti naturali all’interno dei quali l’artista si muove per rappresentare quella simulazione che chiamiamo realtà.

The Net Observer si limita ad aprire finestre sulla realtà della Rete, per tale motivo le opere e gli autori sono presentati attraverso i testi ricavabili dai siti web di origine e non attraverso la redazione di contributi critici ad hoc. Come un fotografo davanti a un paesaggio, The Net Observer fissa la propria lente su di un elemento, un particolare nell’infinito della Rete e cattura un’inquadratura di ciò che “è stato” sul monitor in un determinato istante: lo schermo è finestra sulla Rete come un quadro è finestra sul mondo.

The Net Observer ha scelto di rappresentare le sole opere artistiche che pongono la Rete ed i nuovi media digitali al centro della propria riflessione, e ciò indipendentemente dal medium con il quale sono state realizzate. Nella scelta delle opere da includere nel proprio database, The Net Observer delinea la propria linea editoriale e, ciò facendo, concorre a determinare una cornice semantica per l’estetica propria della Rete. L’osservatore, come ha dimostrato Werner Heisenberg, non è mai neutro, fa parte della realtà osservata e, allo stesso tempo, la determina.

The Net Observer smette i panni di testimone per trasformarsi più esplicitamente in attore quando, rinunciando a priori ad ogni pretesa di oggettività, realizza e promuove (in proprio o aprendosi alla collaborazione con altre realtà) specifici progetti artistici e di comunicazione.

The Net Observer vuole inoltre sfidare la caducità delle opere della Rete: la costituzione di una Fondazione, per la raccolta e la conservazione delle opere liberamente donate dai rispettivi autori, nasce infatti proprio dall’esigenza di assicurare una memoria il più possibile duratura delle forme e dei luoghi della Rete, consentendone la sopravvivenza anche quando scompariranno dai contesti originari.

L’archivio di The Net Observer può essere interpretato anche come uno strumento di studio e di ricerca, a disposizione di qualsiasi istituzione culturale si caratterizzi per la formulazione di proposte innovative in ordine all’archiviazione o alla divulgazione degli oggetti culturali complessi che caratterizzano la contemporaneità.

The Net Observer è un progetto totalmente no profit: qualsiasi forma di contributo verrà dunque investita per il raggiungimento degli obiettivi istituzionali del progetto.
